What can I do with a degree in Spanish?

Spanish enhances career opportunities in numerous fields, and a liberal arts education gives graduates the broad knowledge and range of skills many public and private sector organizations seek. In addition to Spanish proficiency, these positions require research ability, communication skills, and an understanding of Hispanic cultures and heritage. Our graduates are college professors, business executives, immigration lawyers, secondary school and community college teachers, and managers in the oilfield. Others, particularly double majors or those who have taken a strong minor in a scientific field, are using their bilingual skills as doctors, psychologists, and nurses.

We currently have graduates pursuing the Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese, Clinical Psychology, and Comparative Literature, the M.S. in Industrial and Experimental Psychology, the M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, and the Ed.D. in Foreign Language Education. Past students have also entered J.D., M.B.A., and M.D. programs. Institutions where our students have pursued advanced degrees recently include Angelo State University, Louisiana State University, Southern University, Southeastern Louisiana University, Tulane University, UL Lafayette, the University of Madrid, and the University of New Mexico.
