The Department of Modern Languages is proud to announce that Dr. Fabrice Leroy was awarded the prestigious Research Excellence Award for the College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday, April 17, 2023, at UL Lafayette's Research Recognition Ceremony.
Dr. Leroy has an international reputation as a scholar whose research is at the vanguard of his field of Francophone literature, popular culture, and paraliterature, especially graphic novels and comics. His current and recent publications include a single-author monograph and a co-authored book, as well as a substantial collection of essays and a forthcoming co-edited seminal companion to American graphic novels published by Cambridge University Press. In addition to his book-length projects, he has contributed essays to fifteen edited volumes, published twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles, and produced four scholarly translations. He has also engaged in significant editorial activities, including serving as editor-in-chief of the international journal Études francophones, the first scholarly journal to focus entirely on Francophone Studies in the United States. Dr. Leroy has been invited to give four keynote addresses and fourteen lectures on his scholarship; he has read forty-three papers at conferences, most of national or international scope. His prodigious research and other important scholarly contributions are notable for both their quality and their reach, and they have advanced the research mission of the university and helped to develop the national and indeed international reputation of the College of Liberal Arts. The Department of Modern Languages congratulates Dr. Leroy on his outstanding record of research and this much-deserved award.
